ABOUT THE GENRE NATURE OF THE PIANO CYCLE BY LEOPOLD GODOVSKY “TRIAKONTAMERON”

 

Abstract: The article covers the analysis of the genre and the semantic sphere in the piano suite “Triacontameron” by Leopold Godowsky, who made a great contribution to the development of piano music not only as an outstanding pianist, but also as a remarkable composer. The fundamental suite by Godowsky has not yet received any analysis in the musicological literature. The description of the genre nature of the suite “Triacontameron” enables to reveal the dramaturgy and architectonics of the cycle, to identify traditional and innovative features in the composition of the work. The analysis of the genre and the semantic palette of the suite offers a new look at the evolution of the waltz genre that forms the basis of the work.

RUSSIAN LYRICAL SONGS IN THE SINGING TRADITION OF THE LIVVIK-KARELIANS: TO THE PROBLEM OF “ONE’S OWN” / “BORROWED”

 

Abstract: The article is devoted to the vocal cycle “Forgotten songs” by the Karelian composer E. Patlayenko, based on F. Sologub’s poetic cycle “The Star Mair”. Invented by the poet-symbolist, the wonderful land is the only place where one can escape from worldly and sinful reality. But it is attainable only after physical death. The composer reinterpreted the tragic concept of F. Sologub, making the image of the visionary world dominant. To achieve this he restructured the composition and formed by means of texture and harmony a colorful thematic complex in the instrumental part. Organically combining different vocal genres, the composer has created a multifaceted musical statement in terms of emotional fullness. “Forgotten songs” by E. Patlayenko are both a lyrical monologue and a tale of the dream world.

PROMETEJ CHISTALEV’S CONTRIBUTION TO THE ESTABLISHMENT OF DOMESTIC ORGANOLOGY AND FINNO-UGRIC STUDIES

 

Abstract: The article generalizes Prometej Chistalev’s contribution to the establishment of Komi and the development of Russian and Finno-Ugric ethno-organology during the second half of the 20th century. The paper notes Chistalev’s attainments in scientific documentation (field research, field recording and transcription of instrumental music, arranging steady research stations), phenomena of traditional musical culture; studying folk organological terminology, traditional theory and aesthetics of instrumentalism; contribution to the study of historical layers and evolution stages of musical instrumentarium of the Permian-Finnic peoples and establishing systematic ethnophonic methodology. The article sets goals to study, scientifically reconstruct and mainstream into the present-day research and teaching practices of the Chistalev’s creative heritage.

SOME PHONETIC PROBLEMS IN TEACHING ACADEMIC SINGING TO CHINESE STUDENTS

 

Abstract: The article covers some features of the phonetic systems of the Russian and the Chinese languages that cause difficulties in the process of teaching academic singing to students from the People's Republic of China, which can arise from the place and manner of pronunciation of vowels and consonants. The author pays special attention to the consonant sounds that form pairs of voicelessness- sonance, which are not present in Chinese, and Chinese students practically do not differentiate them. Attention is paid to the pronunciation of the sonorous “N”, hard and soft “L”, complex combinations of two or more consonants in the beginning and in the middle of the word. The article also considers such phenomena as epenthesis and diaeresis, as well as stress and reduction in the Russian language. The author reminds of the rules for devoicing and voicing consonants in the Russian language. The article suggests some exercises for overcoming phonetic difficulties. The article, first of all, is addressed to teachers of singing.
